Paella is a Spanish rice dish that can be made with all sorts of veg, shellfish and meat - mixed with rice. We've made this paella with prawns, and ham from yesterdays dinner as well as tomatoes and bell pepper. Enjoy!

Directions

1. Dice the onion. Rinse and clean the bell pepper and cut into smaller chunks. Cut up the ham into small pieces. Rinse and halve the cherry tomatoes.

2. Sautée the onion in a bit of olive oil on a pan and add the ham bits. Add bell pepper, rice, paprika and thyme. Stir well for a few minutes and add a dash of water if needed, if it's getting close to burning.

3. Add tomatoes and prawns and season to taste with salt, pepper and the juice of a lemon.

4. Serve the paella with a couple of lemon slices.

5. Enjoy!

Tip

Tasks for kids in the kitchen: Let your kids dice the ham. They can also halve the tomatoes and cut up the bell pepper.

You can use either jumbo prawns with the shell on or small prawns for the dish - jumbo, "proper" paella prawns are often a good bit more expensive than the smaller, peeled ones, however.
