These savoury poppy twists are a twist – excuse the pun – on a classic sweet Danish, and they're delicious! Stuffed with spiced cream cheese, grated cheese and oregano, they're perfect in packed lunches or as afternoon snacks. Enjoy!
Directions
1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees fan assisted.
2. Roll out one roll of filo pastry. Spread on a nice layer of spiced cream cheese with a spatula, and top with grated cheese and oregano.
3. Place the other roll of filo pastry on top, brush with egg wash and sprinkle with a mix of poppy and sesame seeds.
4. Halve the pastry lengthways. Then cut into strips about 3-4 cm wide.
5. Now twist each strip of pastry to form a, well, twist! Don't worry if a bit of filling leaks out as you do this. Place the twists on a baking tray lined with baking parchment.
6. Bake the twists for 15-20 minutes until lightly golden on top.
7. And munch away – enjoy!
Tip
Tasks for younger kids in the kitchen: Let your kids help spread cream cheese onto the pastry. They can also sprinkle on grated cheese and oregano.
